16 are arrested in Maryland as fight breaks out at concert held to promote nonviolence

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police say 16 people were arrested after a fight broke out during a concert held to promote nonviolence and to remember a Silver Spring teen killed last year.

The free Stop the Violence youth concert was held Saturday night on Ellsworth Street in downtown Silver Spring in memory of 14-year-old Montgomery Blair High School student Tai Lam, who was shot to death in November.

Police say fighting broke out near the stage toward the end of the concert and at least one person resisted arrest. Police say 16 adults and juveniles were arrested for offenses such as assault and disorderly conduct.

Honestly? Really? It is amazing to me the levels of stupidity in which people act.

RIP Mikey Brosnan 1974-2008

:::Philebrity…media, culture, music and more::: » Blog Archive » R.I.P.: Mikey Brosnan, 1974-2008:

His nickname was “Little Mikey,” but I don’t ever recall their being a “Big” one (I guess no one noticed I was fat until later). Mike Brosnan is not a name people are used to seeing in headlines or magazines, but he has a lot to do with the city’s reputation as a hotspot for underground music. Around 2:30 in the morning on Saturday night, he was struck by a Chevy Impala at 48th and Springfield. Less than an hour later, he was pronounced dead at UPenn hospital.

Wow, I remember him from years and years ago, I’ll have to see if I have any old pics from the DisSucks/Rizzo/Stuntmen shows. I hope they lock away the driver forever…

Oh I love a good Palin interview with a side of FAIL!

The TV Watch – A Question Reprised, but the Words Come None Too Easily for Palin – NYTimes.com:

Her first interview, with the ABC News anchor Charles Gibson, was too hard. The second, with Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel, was too soft. The third, however, did not turn out to be just right for Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

On the CBS Evening News on Thursday, Katie Couric asked Ms. Palin, Senator John McCain?s running mate, what she meant when she cited Alaska?s proximity to Russia as foreign affairs experience. Ms. Palin could have anticipated the question ? the topic of their interview, pegged to her visit to the United Nations, was foreign affairs. Yet Ms. Palin?s answer was surprisingly wobbly: her words tumbled out fast and choppily, like an outboard motor loosened from the stern.

And when you are done watching that one, there is always this one. :)

Comcast kills the USENET. :(

Comcast aka Comcraptic has decided to go ahead and kill USENET access.  For those of you who do not know, this was pretty much how the internet was started, and my first experience “online”. I guess there is no room for uncensored communication in the new Web 2.0.

Comcast Newsgroups The Comcast Newsgroups service has been discontinued. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have already signed up for Comcast Newsgroups, please be aware that this service will be discontinued on 10/25/2008

Sullivan on Frum on Palin, King on time.

Check out the nice summary that Andrew Sullivan posted which, pretty much sums up how silly these ads/media and hype are getting over this presidential election. Frum on Palin.

Mike King posted a nice article this week as well, on 10 Ways to Simplify and Eliminate Waste in Your Life. I’ve been flipping back and forth from it today and it makes quite a bit of sense.

I want to goto Cuba for Vacation….

Castro has stepped down as the Cuban president! Could this be the end of the embargo? Will I finally be able to get my cigars and rum legally? Just think, in the next few years we could be heading to Cuba for a nice little vacation. It is only 90 miles south of Key West after all. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the only think that has kept Cuba afloat is their tourist economy. Why not look at this as a growth possibility, anyone want to open a hotel/bed and breakfast? :) News article here, Castro resigns
