This past weekend I took place in a chili competition down in Slower Lower DE at the Shipwreck Brewery, aka “John’s Man House“. Sadly, my kick ass chili was not as kick ass as I had hoped it would be. I took 4th place, which of course is the 3rd place loser! The first place winner was one of the Dogfish Head brewery guys, second place was Tom “born on the greatest day ever“, and both were rather tasty. At any rate, I already have a plan for next year, so I’m not too worried. All in all, a fun time was had by all. I had bear and deer meat chili for the first time ever, it tasted a lot like beef, with a buttload of cayenne pepper in it.
In other news, as I sit here and wait for the Inauguration Swearing-In Ceremony, it occurs to me that people are nuts for Obama. I don’t much care for the current administration myself, but when do we draw the line? For instance you can have your very own Coffee People K-Cup Obama Blend,
or some other Obama Gear
. All I know is that I need to go out and get my very own

Chia Obama Handmade Decorative Planter
In other news, I found $30 in an old pair of jeans this morning! Just in case you are looking for a place to watch the Inaugural address.

It has officially been over a year now that I quit smoking. Woot for me. What have I learned in this past year from this experience? That I can do nearly anything I set my mind to. I was the avid smoker who was 2+ packs a day (on a normal day), down to nothign by using mostly will power and the patch for a couple of weeks. A lot can be done with a little motivation, and a whole lot of will power!
The stats:
365 days, 16 hours, 24 minutes and 46 seconds smoke free.
10970 cigarettes not smoked.
$3,294.00 and 2 months, 23 days, 19 hours of your life saved.
I found the toughest time for me to not smoke was when drinking and in social situations such as work. However, I did find that there are plenty of things going on inside of the establishment while the smokers are away. I do however still enjoy standing outside and chatting with the smokers from time to time, after all they were my kinda people.
Moving forward, I have new goals and plans that will hopefully be accomplished just like this one. Now if I could just get my brother to quit smoking…

A little fyi of an upcoming event from Pinups For Pitbulls that I will most likely be attending:

Pinups for Pitbulls Charity Calendar Release Party
If you missed my first linking to the site, here is a little background from theirs:
Pinups for Pitbulls, a not for profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the pit bull breed, announces the launch of the 2009 Pinups for Pitbulls calendar. Pinups for Pitbulls’ goal is to educate the public about the breed using pro-pit bull testimonies of 12 strong, pit bull-owning women. The ultimate mission is to save the lives of abused and abandoned pit bulls, since pit bulls and pit bull mixes account for the majority of dogs in shelters across the United States
So, if you are not down with BSL (Breed Specific Legislation), you should consider attending. Besides, they have PBR on tap at the Raven Lounge.
