I went to the beach yesterday morning, I didn’t do a whole lot more than just lay there in the sand and work on getting rid of my hangover. Followed that up by some sitting around the house, then went to the Half Shell Raw bar for All You Can Eat Alaskan Crabs.. Yummy.
So after a billion years, the Phillies have won the World Series and of course, I’m in Florida… No worries, spent the evening at Pat Croce’s Rum Barrel. The place was nuts, the Action News theme was rolling with the Mummers. What more can I say… amazing.
Go Birds!
Go Phils!
Sorry Buddy! We won!!!!
We left there and made our way over to the main Cowboy Bill’s bar for the Sexy Bull riding contest. You can check out all of the pics, some are clearly not safe for work.
In other news, Vote for McCain, because this is just the guy you want wearing your shirt a few days before the election!
Vote McCain!

I’m going to walk around town a bit and see if I can’t shake some of the funk off, sadly I wish I was at home tomorrow!

Day two in Key West started off well enough. I went down to Kino’s to check out some new sandals, I might grab a couple of pairs before I leave. Then we were waiting for my Dad and realized they had dollar beer at Cowboy Bill’s on Duval. Which I was delighted to find out that it was, PBR… We had ordered some food from the Iguana Cafe across the way. They had this great meal called Hog’s Wings. I would highly recommend you try them if you are ever in the area.

We left there and went to the Conch for a little bit to see Sunny Jim, that was pretty standard. Next up, we stopped at the Parrot, Dad and I were hungry so we went over to the Meteor Smokehouse. Now granted, it is Key West, but there was a mouse running around on the floor. That should have been my first clue to leave. We decided to get some sandwiches and were just finishing up when some crazy local who has at least 100lbs on me starts freaking out on me. He was saying things like “I’m going to kill you, you don’t know how close your life is to ending”, I have no idea what his issue was or why he had one with me. So what does the bartender do? Of course, kicks me out cause I’m a trouble maker or something. Not the crazy local dude who obv has some issues. What we should have done is called the cops on this guy, but whatever. They just lost my group’s business for the rest of this trip and every other one. Sadly, the food wasn’t even very good.
They don’t even have a website to find someone to complain to. Oh well.
All of the pics were taken by Dave or Danny, as my camera is having issues. Here is the full gallery

Well I’m sitting in the condo, uploading the few pics I managed to take yesterday with my crappy battery sucking old camera.
As you can see Papa Joe’s is umm, sucky and falling apart. Sadly they are closed and I really have my doubts that that building can even be repaired. It appears that driving down Rt 1 a lot of watering holes and restaurants are closed or will be soon. You can see other brother Mike walking around there.

Papa Joe’s looks bad!

We were planning on stopping at Alabama Jack’s but we missed the turn and didn’t care enough to turn around. So the first bar we stopped at, was the Paradise Pub in Key Largo. They had great food and cold beer, we might have to hit here on the way back North.

There is my old favorite bar in the world.
And of course, the obligatory shot of the buoy. Which oddly enough may be my first one at night.
There is the buoy!
The full gallery is here, I’ll upload more pics tomorrow.
Only other brother Mike and I managed to get all of our lives for the week into the one carry on. I did however realize that on the next trip I do need to bring a backpack just in case there is no room on the plane. Oddly enough, as we were waiting to board the plane they offered to take check baggage for free. So that might be a good way to screw US Air out of their $15 per bag policy. I still hate them, but the flight was not too bad.

Google impressed me again today with their freshly updated iGoogle personalized homepage layout. While I like tabs on the top, cleaner selectable tabs on the side are much more efficient when you have multiple pages setup. With the new gmail plugins I’m able to scan/delete/respond to my mail without having to jump around too much.. It is worth checking out..
So we were discussing our travel arrangement at the last “Pre -Meeting of the Minds” meeting and it the price of checking luggage was mentioned. Of course, we know that some people are going to check bags regardless of the price and or horrific wait times which always seem to accompany flying back into Philadelphia International Airport. I feel as if a challenge was issued to travel down using just a carry on. I think I can do this, as I’ll only be there for a week after all. These are the reasons I think this is a good idea/challenge:
- I can save at least $30, well not really save, I’m sure I’ll drink it down.
- One less bag on the plane, that much more fuel will be saved, the Earth won’t cry as much.
- I can’t stand to wait in airports, esp when I’m arriving. I’m planning on getting to Alabama Jack’s quickly.
- There is a washer and dryer in the house, I can have plenty of clean undies even if I only pack a pair (ewe)
Really though, it is Key West, as you can see from last years pics, I don’t wear much more than a few tank tops and some tshits/shorts. The place is a great example of escapism, what more do I need besides a few articles of clothing and my wallet/phone? Most of the time, barstools are even optional! Besides, trimming the fat and cutting away the crap is a great way to see how much I really can do without.
Of course, my phone still won’t check my email, but there is no way I am taking a laptop with me. I can update my pics and this blog from the condo.
p.s. Today still appears to be a woot off, with some bad ass shirts too.

I received a very disturbing phone call last night, Uncle Bernie has passed away. I find myself just saying “wow” over and over to myself and others. I think right now I am just in a state of shock, I only saw him a few weeks ago and everything was fine. Of course, I have been really thinking about this for the past 22 hours now. Perhaps because I am a little bit older, or I’ve been doing a bit of soul searching. However, it really has caused me to examine my station in life, and realize that tomorrow really is a gift. It does not seem to matter, your age, activities, whatever. When it is your time to go, it is your time to go.
Although we visited many a watering hole, these particular pics were taken at the Conch Republic Seafood Company in Key West, Florida on October 30th, 2007. Key West just will not be the same w/o Uncle Bernie.

First, watch this video of a resident Floridian, who doesn’t like Barack Obama then ask youself how those high brow voting machines could offer so much trouble figurin’ out.
